Information Minister Daryl Vaz says there is no truth to media reports suggesting that the multi-billion LNG energy project was “yanked” from the Minister of Mining and Energy by the Prime Minister in an adversarial meeting at Jamaica House on December 2, 2010.

Vaz told Business Content Jamaica Friday there was nothing adversarial about the move as it was always the government’s intention to set up a project unit at Jamaica House to deal with the LNG issue because of the magnitude of the project.

Vaz said it was something supported by the Energy Minister James Robertson himself because of the various ministries and departments that would have to be involved in the multi-billion-dollar project.

On June 18, 2010, Energy Minister James Robertson unveiled an LNG deal with a Columbian company , describing it as a game-changing moment for Jamaica’s energy sector and one which would save the country billions of dollars.

Business Content Jamaica will have more on this developing story later today.
