World Bank: Crime Is Main Inhibitor To Jamaica's Growth

World Bank Director for the Caribbean, Miss Francoise Clottes, says crime has been the most severe of three major inhibitors to Jamaica’s economic growth over the past forty years.

Miss Clottes who spoke at a seminar at Kingston’s University of the West Indies on June 16, 2011, noted that crime in Jamaica has constrained business expansion and diverted resources from productive activities to crime protection.
 
'No Support For Gestapo-Like Tax Operations'
no_support_for_gestapo-like_tax_operations_tn.jpg Director General of Jamaica's Tax administration Viralee Latibeaudiere as early as May 4, 2011 made it clear in an interview with Owen James  that the island's tax authorities do not support Gestapo-like tactics but actions which support openness and public education.
